Very authentic, quite heavy, super cool. It has no ringer (never had one), because it was what they used to call an "extension phone"...who wanted a phone ringing in every room? Otherwise, everything works. 

An old fashioned land line is not needed, it can be be plugged in to use as an internet phone (i.e. with Vonage).
